Located high up on the summit of Puig de Randa, hermit Ramon Llull is remembered at Mallorca’s first monastery.
Founded in the 13th century by philosopher Ramon Llull; its library has valuable books that you may be able to see during quiet times. Next to the terrace is a bar and restaurant. Rooms and apartments can also be rented at the monastery.
Take in the views from the terrace of this Franciscan monastery which has long been a pilgrimage destination for the sick. Passing through a 17th century doorway, you enter Santuari de Cura, on the site of Llull’s original hermitage. Nothing remains from that time and most of the monastery was rebuilt in the 20th century after the arrival of the Franciscan monks, who have been living here since 1913. The chapel on the right mostly dates from the 17th century; a crib is kept here throughout the year, according to Franciscan tradition, and there is a small statue of the Virgin carved out of Santanyi stone.
To the west, you can see Palma and occasionally Ibiza beyond; to the south there are beautiful views of Cabrera. From the viewpoint behind the monastery, you can see almost the whole island of Mallorca. Looking carefully you will spot various towns and villages including Inca and Petra.
