Vacation rentals and homes, commercial property and residential sales in Arta
Two enormous monuments - the parish church and the castle-sanctuary at the summit- dominate this ancient town
The municipality and primarily residential town of Arta lies in the north east corner of the island of Mallorca and is located approximately 70km and a hours drive from the capital Palma, and the Son Sant Joan International airport.
The coastline north of Arta contains some of Mallorca’s wildest and least-known beaches. From the petrol station on the eastern outskirts of Arta, on the road to Capdepera, follow the signs for Cala Torta. A rough country lane leads down to the coast where you will find the horse-shoe shaped coves of Cala Torta and Cala Mitjana, and the narrow creek of Cala Estreta.
It is possible to drive all the way to the castle at Arta but a better alternative is to leave your car near the tourist information office in the old railway station on the edge of town. From here you can walk along Arta’s main street, Carrer del Ciutat, which is lined with cafes, restaurants and shops selling the local speciality, basketware. As you proceed up the hill, you pass the town hall on Placa d’Espanya, until you reach the parish church of Transfiguracio del Senyor with its small museum. From the church, a cypress tree-lined flight of steps leads to the castle walls.
