Valldemossa is an old village in the mountains, set in a green vale beneath the Puig d’es Teix, which is well worth visiting.
Here you find a monastery where the composer Chopin lived the winter 1838/39., with his mistress, the French novelist George Sand. In more recent years, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have put Valldemossa back on the map.

By far, the main attraction here is the Reial Cartoixa, second only to Palma Cathedral for the number of visitors it receives. However, if you intend to visit, make sure you arrive as early as possible before the tour groups start to arrive.
Follow the twisting road for 4 miles down to the coast at Port de Valldermossa. This pretty seaside hamlet has a small gravel beach and a fish restaurant on the quay.
