El Cotillo

El Cotillo is a small, pretty fishing village on the North West coast of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands about 28 miles from the airport.

Centered around the small harbour that is mostly used by local fishermen, the village boasts some of the best seafood restaurants on the island.

Only 20 minutes drive away from Corralejo, El Cotillo is a typical Spanish village with its white painted houses, it’s famous blue lagoon and is surrounded by a rugged landscape - ideal for those wanting to get away from the busier resorts. To the north of the village are sandy beaches in protected lagoons which are popular with naturists and sun lovers. Here you can see some beautiful sunsets (people often say that the view of the sunset in El Cotillo is the best in the world. The unspoilt beaches attract watersports enthusiasts who visit to enjoy kite surfing, a mixture of three sports, surfing, windsurfing and power kiting.

With two harbours, the harbour where the boats are moored is relatively new. The old harbour is only a short walk to the north over the headland that separates the two. Although not essential, car hire is recommended. The quiet roads make it ideal for driving and the other parts of the island are well worth a visit!

One mile north of El Cotillo village this small complex of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments is in a truly idyllic location on the edge of a beautiful lagoon. Just a few steps through a small garden of tropical flowers is the silvery white sandy beach and the ocean. Although there is a restaurant closeby there is to date little else - a seaside holiday just as nature intended.
