This quiet resort with fishing origins is located in the south of the island is named after the surrounding white sandy beaches.

The fishing village origins of this resort are readily apparent around its harbour in the centre where it retains its charm and has escaped much of the commercialism that has blighted larger resorts.

Playa Blanca has grown considerably over recent years and is very much a family oriented place with a good selection of cafés, bars and restaurants along the promenade.

An important tourist centre, Playa Blanca has some very good beaches nearby with some of the best beaches in the Canary Islands just four miles (six km) away at Papagayo. The most enticing stretches of sand lie hidden around the rocky headlands to the east, where the clear, warm sea laps into rocky coves, and clothes seem superfluous!

There is a plentiful supply of watersports by the beachfront or if you prefer less energetic enjoyment you can take one of the regular boat trips to the Papagayo beaches. The dramatic volcanic scenery of theTimanfaya National Park is only ten miles (16km) away where you can experience a camel ride amongst the many attractions! From the harbour at Playa Blanca, ferries cross several times a day to Fuerteventura.

Only seven minutes walk from Puerto Chico 'A' the promenade and pedestrian shopping areas form the heart of the village with its rows of cafés and restaurants. In true cosmopolitan fashion, an assortment of languages can be heard in this friendly holiday destination. The promenade cafés and restaurants are very popular throughout the day and especially in the evenings, when meals are eaten with romantic ocean backdrops. During the day the town beach is very well attended. Locals mix well with the British, Spanish, French, German, Scandinavian and Dutch residents and holidaymakers. Flamingo beach. Ideal for younger children. The water is crystal clear with a gently sloping beach. There is plenty of sand to play with. The sea, with its small fish and marine life, is ideal for paddling and swimming. There are sun-beds, umbrellas and pedaloes available for hire. Dorado Beach For the energetic visitor there is plenty to do at Dorado beach with safe swimming, snorkelling and of course topping up your tan in a relaxing atmosphere. Jet Ski’s and pedaloes are for hire and Banana boat trips are also available. The cost of a sun-bed is just a few Euros for the day but you will have to pay extra for the use of a sun-umbrella. There are also toilet facilities at the main café. Locally there is a large array of eating establishments and shops including the Dive College Lanzarote which is an international PADI dive centre, offering a pick-up and drop off service.
