Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen is located 10 minutes from Arrecife airport, and is the principal tourist zone on Lanzarote.

More than 60 per cent of Lanzarote's tourists stay in this resort which has been transformed from a small seaside village dedicated to fishing, into one of the most popular tourist zones.

The coastal road carves its way through a solid slab of holiday infrastructure, offering 5km of broad, pale sandy beaches as well as a wide variety of places to eat and drink. It remains a popular destination for holidaymakers from far and wide.

Made up of a 'new' and 'old' towns, Puerto del Carmen has no high-rise structures and almost all buildings are white and unpretentious. Though dense, the buildings are pleasantly designed and unoppressive. All have access to a long golden beach, Playa Blanca, which in places is very wide. Another beach nearby is Playa de los Pocillos. The original village lies west of the port, away from the hustle and bustle of the resort.
