Amroth

A pleasant village famous for its drowned forest

Marking the easterly end of the 186 mile Pembrokeshire Coast path, Amroth is with good south facing beaches for maximum sunshine, situated just seven miles from Tenby and four miles from Saundersfoot.

A small coastal village, Amroth has a long sandy beach backed by cliffs and is set within some breathtaking countryside and outstanding coastline. Popular with families and those taking a restful break, Amroth beach is a good beach for children and is famous for its drowned forest, drowned 1000 years ago. At very low tides tree stumps can be seen poking through the sand and many fossilised antlers, nuts, animal bones and Neolithic flints have been discovered. The beach is also popular with watersports enthusiasts attracted by its challenging waves, ideal for windsurfing, sailing, jet ski-ing and canoeing.

Nearby, now owned by the National Trust, Colby Woodland Garden, features gardens set in a tranquil and secluded valley offering an extensive collection of rhododendrons and azaleas set in an attractive woodland garden.
Facilities are good with a range of restaurants, pubs and shops, toilets, and cafes all found close to the beach. Watersports including Windsurfing and Kitesurfing are popular and well catered for.

Originally a motte with a wooden bailey, later rebuilt as a small 12th century stone castle, Amroth Castle is an extra special place for an unforgettable holiday. Its clear, clean waters are regularly awarded the top Blue Flag standard. Part of the 14th century gateway still remains today.
