Set in a beautiful wooded gorge
Set in a beautiful wooded gorge, the village is one long street. The romantic 13th century castle ruins perched on wooded bluff above River Teifi inspired one of Turner's finest works.
The first castle was built in 1110 high above the river. It was rebuilt in 1233 and again in 1377, and although it is now in ruins the two round towers and parts of the walls are standing.
Cilgerran Castle is the legendary site of the abduction of the Nest the ‘Welsh Helen of Troy’ by a lovestruck Prince Owain of Powys.
Bison, wild boars and other rare breeds can be seen at Cardigan Wildlife Park.
