This tiny village has excellent water sports facilities
Fourteen miles from Haverfordwest, the tiny village of Dale huddles behind a shingle beach. Although tiny, Dale is particularly popular for water sports and yachting and this can make it quite overcrowded particularly during the summer season.
Dale is thought to be the best location for watersports tuition, weekends, holidays, hire and sales in the U.K. Water sporting activities are based around the West Wales Wind, Surf and Sailing beachside shack and from here you can book lessons at all levels of ability and rent the necessary equipment to indulge in the sport of your choice.
The calm water at Dale can be deceptive. St Anne's Head, one of the most invigorating and desolate places in the country can attract some of the highest winds in Britain.
Dale has two beaches. One faces the waters of Milford Haven, and is particularly sheltered making it a good location for dinghy sailing or windsurfing. Facing out to sea and Skokholm Island, the other beach, much cleaner and sandier is situated at West Dale. This beach is not ideal for bathing due to dangerous currents and although it can be a sun-trap, the steep access steps from the beach make it unsuitable for the elderly or infirm.
Driving round the one-way system in the village you eventually come to Dale Castle, now a private house just north of the village. Although not open to the public, the access road offers a good view of the castle, parts of which are incorporated in the present house.
