A series of underground caves hollowed out of the soft rock
The filtering of rain water through the limestone rock over thousands of years has created a breathtaking subterranean cavescape of stalacites, stalagmites, columns and glittering rivulets of crystals. Wrap up warm for the guided tours, since the caverns maintaina cool 61 degrees.
The park also offers hiking trails and horseback riding and you can swim and fish in the Chipola River. A 52 mile canoe trail slips through the high limestone cliffs along the river's route south to the Dead lake, just west of Apalachicola National Forest.
