In the largest range of wooded mountains in Central Europe, on the border with the Czech Republic: Haus Sterr, located in a small residential area on the edge of the village of Bayerisch Eisenstein (714 metres), offers 5 holiday apartments in 2 adjacent houses, a few metres from the forest, shops, restaurants and the Czech border.

This peaceful area offers castles, museums and beautiful towns, forest walks, cycling/mountain biking, tennis, golf, riding, alpine skiing and snowboarding on the Arber mountain (1,456 metres) and cross country skiing everywhere.

The spacious apartments have been renovated in 2005/6 to provide decoration, furnishings and equipment to international standards and offer:

Haus Sterr 1: 1st floor, 3 double bedrooms (1 with washbasin), 2 shower rooms, sitting room, kitchen/dining room, private balcony

Haus Sterr 2: ground floor, 3 double bedrooms (all with washbasins), sitting room, kitchen/dining room, large bathroom with full bath and separate shower.

Haus Sterr 3 4****: 2nd floor, 2 double bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen/dining room, sitting room and balcony with view of the Arber mountain.

Haus Sterr 4 5*****: ground floor, 3 double bedrooms all with ensuite shower rooms, kitchen/dining room, large sitting room, 2 balconies, private garden.

Haus Sterr 5 5*****: 1st floor, 3 double bedrooms all with ensuite shower rooms, kitchen/dining room, sitting room, 2 balconies.

All apartments have German/international satellite TV, DVD/CD player (and DVDs/CDs), full hob and oven/dishwasher/microwave/coffee machine etc. in the kitchen. Bedlinen and towels are provided.

All guests have use of garden, terrace and barbecue. There is are large parking areas in front of the house.

A generous welcome pack includes first breakfast and kitchen/bathroom supplies. Drinks, frozen food and garden produce (in season) are available for guests to buy. Each apartment also has an extensive file of tourist information, recommendations for places to visit and restaurants etc.

Sorry, but no smoking and no animals.

The village has basic shops, restaurants (2 within 2 minutes walk of the house), local railway museum, glass works, swimming pool/healthcomplex and other sports facilities. The Czech border is 5 minutes walk from the house. The Arber is a few minutes by car and the cable car operates most months of the year.

Local attractions include: numerous glassworks/shops, old mines, open air museums, wildlife parks, walks in National Park

Day excursions are possible to Passau, Regensburg, Prague, Plzen, Munich, Salzburg and many other places, as well as boat trips on the Danube. Trips to Czech Republic need passport only for most nationalities.

Accessibility: 9-10 hours drive from Calais (all motorway except final 50 minutes), 2 hours from Munich, Prague or Linz airports.

The English owners of Haus Sterr, Margaret Leach and Martin Holborow, are usually resident at the house and available for help and advice on things to do/places to go if needed and are happy to take guests to local events. Margaret speaks fluent German. All guests are offered a guided walk around the village to see the main attractions, shops, restaurants etc. and Martin offers an evening tasting local schnaps, beer and wine.
